How this online image compressor works

In a camera, stopping down means closing the aperture to let in less light — you trade a bit of brightness for a sharper, more controlled exposure. This image compressor works on the same trade-off, just with file size instead of light.

When you move the dial toward f/22, the compressor discards image data the eye barely notices — subtle color gradients and fine texture — to shrink the file. Toward f/1.4, it keeps nearly everything, so the file stays close to its original size.

Will transparency be kept?

Only if you export as PNG or WebP — both support transparency. Exporting as JPEG fills transparent areas with white, since JPEG has no transparency channel.
